Awning & Lighting Permit Fees Waived in May
Taraval Merchants: Now is the time to improve your storefront!
The pain of building permit processing in San Francisco will be eased a bit during the month of May in honor of National Small Business Month.
Small businesses in the city with fewer than 100 employees are qualified to get fee waivers for awning replacement and pedestrian level lighting permits. That means NOW is the best time to replace your storefront awning or install pedestrian level lighting.
Your storefront facade greatly affects how potential customers perceive your business. Maybe your awning is faded and worn, or some street lighting would help improve the appearance of your establishment.
Building and electrical permit fees vary based on the type and amount of work being done, but can cost several hundred dollars. If you decide to have work done during the month of May, you are still required to apply for the permits, but the fees will be waived.
For electrical permits related to pedestrian level lighting, call the Department of Building Inspection at (415) 558-6088. For awning replacement permits, you must contact the Department of Building Inspection at the above number, and the Planning Department at (415) 558-6378.
