People of Parkside Sunset

Margaret Graf, a local Sunset resident has started a community-driven senior program called Senior Power!  Her event takes place at the Taraval Police Station, the first week of every month. The last meeting, called ‘Senior Scams’ was held on Wednesday, October 24th, in the Community Room of the Taraval Police Station.  Lieutenant Knoble from the Taraval Police Station gave a presentation to the group on different scams and provide tips on how to avoid them. Wesley Chu from SF Safe shared information about their services such as scheduling a walkthrough of one’s home to provide individualized safety tips, and supporting neighborhood watch groups. Qi Gong exercises fallowed the talk. There was a fun raffle with prizes given after the talk, and a birthday celebration of one of the Sunset’s most special merchants, Bernice Lassiter (infamous neighborhood historian and former owner of Polly Ann’s ice cream) who turned 92 on the day of the Senior Power! meeting. Stay tuned for the next meeting, which is scheduled for Monday, December 3rd, at 10am at the Taraval Police Station. The theme this time, will be how to deal with loneliness during the holidays, as well as other senior themes. The meeting’s called ‘Hello Friend.’ We hope more seniors will join Senior Power!
